Dance Class
Descriptions
BALLET:
A class designed to develop grace, flexibility, and coordination.
It teaches classical ballet techniques, which include barre work,
ballet stretches, center work, variations, and choreography. (1
hr.)
JAZZ:
A technique class, which develops rhythm, strength, and
coordination. Its emphasis is on basic skills like leaps, kicks,
and turns. This class also includes extensive stretching,
progressions across the floor, and fun upbeat choreography. (1
hr.)
TAP:
A class designed to enhance the coordination of the ankles and
feet, by striking the floor in a rhythmic fashion. It teaches
basic tap skills, as well as steps across the floor, and fun,
rhythmical tap routines. (1 hr.)
LYRICAL:
A class, which combines ballet and jazz techniques, with an
emphasis on inspirational choreography. (1 hr.)
HIP HOP:
A high-energy class, which is fun for all! It develops strength,
endurance, and rhythm, by learning the latest funky and hip
choreography from the hottest music videos! (1 hr.)
CONTEMPORARY:
This form of dance strengthens the torso, hips, and spine. It also
concentrates on breathing skills, stretches, progressions across
the floor, and creative choreography. (1 hr.)
DRILL TEAM:
This class is designed to prepare girls for Dance/Drill Team
tryouts! It includes intense stretching for splits, kicks, jumps,
and turns. Students will learn various routines such as prop, high
kick, novelty, jazz, and lyrical pieces. (1 hr.)
PRE-BALLET TAP:
A fun combination class which introduces basic ballet and tap
skills, while using creative movement techniques in order to
develop cognitive skills, body awareness, and spacial perceptions.
(45 minutes) Ages- 3 to 4 yrs. & 5 to 6 yrs.
clogging:
A freestyle dance style characterized by double time stomping
& tap steps resembling a tap dance w/upper body held straight
& upright. Ages: 7-9 yrs. & 10-13 yrs. (45 mins.)
DANCE FORCE
TEAMS:
This class is designed for the serious dancer! (Auditions
required) It is an advance technique class, with an emphasis on
choreography and performance. Must have previous training in
ballet and jazz. All company dancers are required to take one
other technique class, like ballet or modern. (1 hr. and 15
minutes)
BALLROOM FOR
ADULTS:
Social dances usually performed by couples, including the fox
trot, waltz, tango, rumba, swing, mambo, samba, and cha-cha. (1
hr.15 min.)
PILATES FOR
ADULTS:
Body conditioning seeks to increase flexibility and strength for
total body without building bulk. The focus is on
strengthening the abdomen, lower back, and buttocks enabling the
rest of the body to move freely. (1 hr.)
COMBINATION
CLASSES:
A class that teaches different types of dance styles and
techniques. (1 hr.) Examples: Jazz/Hip
Hop, Ballet/Jazz, Jazz/Tap, Hip Hop/Cheer, Tap/Tumble.
MACHO MOVERS:
A high energy class for boys that will introduce creative movement
and basic tumbling skills. This class is for the child in the
formative years, between 3 to 5 yrs. (45 mins.)
TURNS/JUMPS
& CONDITIONING:
A class that a dancer learns and masters multiple leaps and turns
while participating in exercises that strengthen the abdominals,
upper/lower body, arms, and back. It will increase stamina,
endurance, and energy levels in order to perform at your maximum
level.
